ABOUT CULTIVATE
A place to minister to Jesus. A people rooted in His presence.
Cultivate House of Prayer exists to establish a place and grow a priestly people of all ages who sit at the feet of Jesus, minister to Him in worship, and partner with Him in intercession.
WHAT IS THE HOUSE OF PRAYER?
A place set apart for His presence.
At the heart of Cultivate is the prayer room: a place where people gather throughout the week to minister to Jesus through worship and prayer.
We see a biblical picture of worship and prayer rising continually before God, from David’s tabernacle to the bowls of incense in Revelation 5:8, which Scripture tells us are the prayers of the saints. Jesus is worthy of ongoing worship, and He invites His people to partner with Him in prayer.
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Psalm 27:4
WHERE WE’RE GOING
Day and night worship and prayer.
Our long-term vision is a prayer room filled with live worship and prayer 24 hours a day, six days a week.
Jesus is worthy. We want to cultivate a place where worship rises continually, intercession is rooted in Scripture and the heart of God, and people of every generation can encounter His presence and learn to minister to Him.
We’ll always be closed on Sundays. Cultivate isn’t a church, and we want to partner with churches across San Diego as one Body in unity. Come meet with Jesus in the prayer room throughout the week, and prioritize planting yourself in and serving your local church.
WHY CULTIVATE?
A name the Lord gave our family.
As Khalid and Lauren prayed about a new name, they invited their children to pray with them. During that time, their oldest daughter, saw a picture of a house that was in grass and surrounded by growing plants like flowers. In the months that followed, the Lord continued to confirm that direction in meaningful ways. Their son had a dream about the house of prayer represented as a tree, and during a recent prayer meeting, their youngest daughter drew a picture that reflected the imagery of Psalm 1:2-3, even though she had never heard that passage before.“But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.”Psalm 1:2-3 NASB2020
Cultivate represents three things:
Cultivating a Place of Intimacy and Prayer
As a ministry, we are cultivating a place and a people of intimacy and prayer in San Diego through worship and intercession, so that the presence of Jesus is continually welcomed. (Rev. 5:10 NLT)
Cultivating Lives Rooted in Christ
We are cultivating lives that are deeply rooted in Christ and His word, where people of all ages will be transformed by His presence and bear lasting fruit for His Kingdom. (Matt. 13:8, 23)
Cultivating the Gifts He's Given Us
We are cultivating the gifts He has given us, that we might more effectively minister to Him and the people He calls us to. (1 Cor. 14:1)
Our Values
Kingdom of Priests serving Jesus First
We recognize Jesus is a king and He has called us to and given us the privilege of Priestly responsibility. We prioritize ministering to Jesus (Priesting) above performance, platform ministry, and personal recognition.
This means:
- one of our primary identities is that of a priest
- worship is vertical-we look to Jesus, we aim our songs and souls to Jesus, singing to him not just about him
- we come near to Him to minister to Him to stand before Him and keep His charge (Ez.44:15-16)
- prayer is prophetic and sincere
Rooted in Scripture
We value Scripture as the foundation of truth and the lens through which we understand and respond to God’s presence and voice.
This means:
- shaping our lives and gatherings around the teachings of Jesus and Scripture
- testing what we hear and experience against the Word of God
- honoring the Bible as authoritative, living, and relevant for today
Every Generation Engaged
We believe the Holy Spirit speaks to and works through people of all ages
This means:
- adults and children are encouraged to pray, worship, hear God’s voice, prophesy and minister alongside each other
- we encourage interactions where faith is passed from one generation to the next
- we create opportunities for every generation to participate, contribute, and grow together
Hearing God and Responding
We value prophecy (hearing God’s voice), utilizing this critical gift in prayer and strengthening others through edification, exhortation, and comfort.
This means:
- training, practicing and encouraging people to grow in hearing God’s voice and responding to Him
- making room for the Holy Spirit to move in ways that build up and encourage others
- valuing both the wisdom of God’s Word and the power of His voice
Unity in the Body of Christ
We value Jesus’ prayer for His Church to be one in John 17 and the blessing of unity described in Psalm 133. Cultivate exists to serve the Body of Christ and create a place where believers from across the Church can gather around Jesus in worship and prayer.
This means:
- We honor and serve the wider Body of Christ
- We pursue racial and generational reconciliation
- We choose humility, honor, and love in our relationships
- We encourage people to remain rooted and active in their local churches
Kingdom Over Politics
Jesus and His Kingdom are at the center of everything we do. In the prayer room, our prayers are shaped by Scripture and the heart of God rather than political parties or partisan agendas.
This means:
- We keep Jesus and His Kingdom at the center
- We pray from Scripture rather than partisan talking points
- We encourage believers to represent the ways of Jesus in every sphere of life
We Build People, Not Just Meetings
We are committed to helping people grow in intimacy with Jesus, confidence in worship and prayer, spiritual maturity and ministering in spiritual gifts.
This means:
- intentional discipleship
- training environments
- relational investment
Family and Belonging
We strive for an atmosphere where people are known, encouraged, and strengthened as spiritual family.
This means:
- welcoming people warmly and intentionally
- honoring one another with encouragement, prayer, and compassion
- creating space for authentic relationships across generations and backgrounds
